Marcus' father was a respected general of the Dakanese army, and as a result his early life was spent in relative comfort - although he was always expected to follow in his father's footsteps. Luckily, Marcus grew up fiercely patriotic, and fully planned to dedicate himself to the army. He spent all his free time training with the sword and reading books on tactics, and showed great promise. The only thing the bright, idealistic boy couldn't stand was depending on others for anything - he preferred to train alone, read alone, and otherwise prove to himself and the world that he could handle everything without any help. Thus, when the family physician was replaced by the overprotective Iago, who seemed almost fascinated with Marcus and 'cared' for him any time possible, Marcus did not appreciate the attention in the slightest. At age 18 he officially enrolled and his training began in earnest, and it seemed like he would rise through the ranks like lightning - until, when he was 20, he bought a journal for himself so he could jot down notes and the like. The next morning, he climbed out of his bed and collapsed in a heap on the floor. He was quickly sent home and put back into Iago's care, much to his distaste. He's now been stuck like this for three months, and his family is beginning to despair that he'll ever complete his training. |

Marcus was once happy and idealistic, convinced of his own greatness and certain of his future. He smiled almost all the time, listened to everything his parents told him with wide, believing eyes, and enjoyed his training and his life. Not so much, any more. The loss of his legs has left him sullen and bitter, and he spends most of his time lying in his bed and staring at the walls. When he smiles, it's sardonically, and he's nearly constantly sarcastic - even to the father he respects so much. He's no longer the bright young patriotic spark he was. Around Iago he almosts acts like a child having a temper tantrum - yelling at the doctor to get away, insisting he doesn't need any help, refusing to cooperate with any checkup. He hates his new forced dependancy on the man with a passion, although if pushed he'd admit that he at least realizes that the other is intelligent and his opinions are generally correct. Nonetheless, he's still hopeful for his future, despite his attitude. Nearly every day he'll try to stand at least once, and he constantly kicks at the air to try to build up his strength again. That patriotic drive to overcome and become great has not yet left him, and part of him is convinced someday, despite it all, he'll be a general. |

'Lanky' is the first word that jumps to mind when one sees Marcus. He has very long legs and arms, and a fairly thin (although toned) build. His hair is blonde and cut fairly short, falling over one eye. Said eyes are crystal blue and, of late, kept narrow. His face is marked by three moles under one eye, which has always made him stand out a bit. He generally wears nicely-made black clothing and gloves, although he hasn't really given much thought to his clothes of late. He carries himself sullenly, generally pulling his knees close to his chest and glaring at anyone who approaches. |
